This poem was written while his wife and two of his sons were deported from the Warsaw ghetto’s to the Treblinka gas chambers, while he and his youngest son would suffer the same fate at Auschwitz. Katzenelson was deported from France in convoy No. 72 out of Drancy to Auschwitz on April 29, 1944. Written after three years in the Warsaw ghetto’s, and after the transfer of the author in Vittel, France, this long narrative poem is both the voice of an unspeakable personal suffering and that of a murdered all the people. Seeking a formal constraint fifteen songs fifteen verses each, this text was unearthed after the camp's liberation, a few months after the assassination of Katzenelson Myriam Novitch survivor of Vittel. The poem appeared for the first time in Paris in 1945 after NY in 1948, Hebrew, Polish, German, Italian ...
